CineCal Privacy Policy
Introduction
Welcome to CineCal ("we," "our," or "the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under applicable privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
Key Points:
- No Personal Information Collection: We do not collect, store, or process any personally identifiable information (PII) about you.
- Local-Only Data Storage: All your data (favorites, watch history, preferences) is stored exclusively on your device.
- No Account Required: The App does not require user registration or authentication.
- No Tracking: We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising technologies.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data exclusively on your device using local storage:
- Favorite Movies and TV Shows: Titles, poster images, ratings, and release dates of content you mark as favorites
- Watch History: Your viewing progress for movies and TV shows
- App Preferences: Settings and configurations you choose within the App
Important: This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers or any third parties.
1.2 Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect:
- Personal identifiers (name, email, phone number, address)
- Location data (GPS, IP address geolocation)
- Usage analytics or behavioral tracking data
- Crash reports or diagnostic data
- Any information that could directly or indirectly identify you
2. Third-Party Services
2.1 The Movie Database (TMDB) API
To provide movie and TV show information, the App connects to The Movie Database (TMDB), a third-party service:
- Purpose: Retrieve publicly available movie/TV show data (titles, descriptions, posters, ratings, cast information)
- Data Transmitted: Only technical information necessary to make API requests (your IP address may be visible to TMDB's servers during these requests)
- TMDB's Privacy Policy: https://www.themoviedb.org/privacy-policy
- Our Relationship: We are not affiliated with TMDB. They operate independently and have their own privacy practices.
Your IP Address: When the App requests data from TMDB, your device's IP address is inherently visible to TMDB's servers as part of standard internet protocols. We do not control or have access to this information. Please review TMDB's Privacy Policy to understand how they handle this data.
2.2 Image and Content Delivery
Movie posters, backdrops, and other visual content are loaded directly from TMDB's Content Delivery Network (CDN). These requests may expose your IP address to TMDB's infrastructure.
3. How We Use Your Data
Since all data is stored locally on your device:
- Purpose: To provide core App functionality (track favorites, manage watch lists, display personalized content)
- Storage Duration: Data persists until you manually delete it or uninstall the App
- Access: Only you have access to this data through the App interface
We do not:
- Sell, rent, or share your data with third parties
- Use your data for marketing or advertising
- Profile or track your behavior
- Transfer your data across borders (because it never leaves your device)
4. Data Security
4.1 Local Storage Security
Your data is stored using industry-standard local database technology (Hive). Security depends on:
- Your device's operating system security features
- Device encryption (if enabled on your device)
- Your device's physical security
Recommendation: Enable device encryption and use a strong device passcode/biometric lock.
4.2 Network Security
Communications with TMDB API are made over HTTPS (encrypted connections) to protect data in transit.
4.3 Limitations
While we implement reasonable security measures, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of data stored on your device, especially if your device is lost, stolen, or compromised.
5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Data Access and Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:
- View Your Data: Access all your favorites and watch history within the App
- Delete Specific Items: Remove individual favorites or watch history entries through the App interface
- Delete All Data: Uninstall the App to permanently remove all stored data
5.2 Rights Under GDPR (European Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights:
- Right of Access: Request information about data we process (in this case, we process no personal data about you)
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your data (achievable by uninstalling the App)
- Right to Data Portability: Export your data (currently not implemented; data can only be deleted)
- Right to Object: Object to data processing (not applicable as we do not process personal data)
- Right to Lodge a Complaint: Contact your local data protection authority if you have concerns
Data Controller: Since we do not collect or process personal data, traditional data controller obligations do not apply. However, for inquiries, contact us at the email below.
5.3 Rights Under CCPA (California Users)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:
- Right to Know: Request details about personal information we collect (we collect none)
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information (not applicable as we collect none)
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We do not discriminate based on privacy rights exercise
Note: Because we do not collect personal information as defined by CCPA, these rights do not apply in practice.
6. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). Since we do not collect personal information from any users, the App may be used by children under parental supervision. Parents should review movie/TV show content ratings before allowing children to use the App.
7. International Data Transfers
Not Applicable: Since all user data is stored exclusively on your device and never transmitted to our servers, there are no international data transfers.
TMDB API: Requests to TMDB may involve data transfer to TMDB's servers (located in various countries). Refer to TMDB's Privacy Policy for details.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Significant changes will be communicated through update notes in app stores.
Your Responsibility: Review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.
9. Third-Party Links
The App may contain links to external websites or services (e.g., streaming platforms, actor profiles). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. Please review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
10. Legal Basis for Data Processing (GDPR)
Since we do not collect or process personal data about you:
- No Legal Basis Required: Traditional GDPR legal bases (consent, legitimate interest, etc.) do not apply
- Local Storage: Data stored locally on your device is under your control and not subject to GDPR obligations for us as a service provider
11. Data Retention
- Local Data: Persists on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App
